Few leaders at the local branch level misuse and abuse their powers and take advntage of other comrades regarding seat allotments and misuse union funds taking into confidence of leaders at higher level.

  5. Mr Nanduri, It is really surprising to see the EGO filled comment of yours. Lic is exisitng because of the premiums paid by he policy holders not just because of your association. It is time that your members should open their eyes and realise that CUSTOMER IS KING. When you don't seem to have even this basic understanding and trying to defend your members, anyone can estimate that your association seems to be a bunch of Jokers. 7. aiiea as usual had delayed its employees the rightful wage revision by delaying the struggle for justful wage revision to its roots (LIC employees). after 2 years it has taken the first step by a token strike on 16.9.09 and 1 hour walk out today. it is now a fashion for aiiea to work for communists and their ideology than for its employees.AIIEA has never achieved its words on wage revision in the past and it will never achieve in future.

  20. Most leaders at the local branch level misuse and abuse their powers and takes advantage of other comrades regarding seat allotments and due to powerful status of our union most of our comrades come to office late daily and leaved it early. In most cases the lady comrades are in frontline. This is habit of Our newly opened Bilaspur Divl. Unit and all the 3 local branches of the Divn. I suggest to our comrades not interfere in official work and keep them selves disciplined and honest towards union and LIC where our bread and butter are being arranged. Trivedi

    ReplyDelete
  21. No Com. Kishore. It's misconception. It's not the Union that permits its members but the management that permits its employees to come late and leave early. After all the attendance maintenance is the duty of the management. Is it not? It's a tactic any management will try to adopt in any industry. First allow the employees to commit mistakes then use it as a lever to exploit them for their whims and fancies. Seat allocation is also a part and parcel of this management tactics. "Divide the employees and rule them" is the Management Mantra. As long as nothing untoward thing happens Branch Units keep silence on such issues. Members, if affected by these, may take up the issue in their EC or GB and set things right. It is not enough we stop at criticizing alone. We have to help and be part of construction too.

It is also not fair to criticise women comrades alone for late coming and early going. If situation and rules help, both women and men are equally capable of exploiting it to their benefit. Are we not doing it in the case of PF loan every year? Right from the top to the bottom, every one is doing it. Then why single out women?

  22. Comrades while I commend the efforts AIIEA has been taking for the welfare of the staff I wonder why they are silent about the woes of staff especially assistants.
the last recruitment in the cadre of Assistants was in 1993 and over a period of time many have soughth greener pastures, some have gone up the ladder by way of promotions. Meanwhile LIC had been growing from strength to strenght. Inspite of many private players in the filed LIC by far remains the most trusted. Innumerable branches have been opened. LIC has been witnessing an upward growth but the cadre of Assistants is dwindling, with assistants having to multitask like sitting as cashiers as well as handle the ever increasing workload. It's high time our comrades at AIIEA took up the matter with the Managment to recruit new staff,if there is an embargo at least qualified agents may be recruited on contract basis.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Dear Com. Anonymous,

Your comment shows your faith and belief in AIIEA that only it can do something on the issue of recruitment. Of course AIIEA has been at it but unfortunately it has no magic wand to achieve it overnight. On the one hand it has to protect the job security of existing employees and simultaneously on the other hand it has to fight for new recruitment in LIC, which is not an easy task. You must be aware that the Central Government's policy is to reduce the staff strength in PSUs including LIC. Remember the public statement of the Minister of state for finance in 2003 on the matter of privatisation of LIC? Remember the recommendations of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in total agreement of the ideological understanding of the Minister of state for finance and the government he represented at that time? (To read full details on this please visit http://www.unionbook.org/pg/blog/ceeteeyes) Thanks to AIIEA's efforts, the said recommendation was put to cold storage. But Government's policy remains the same till date. Despite such drawbacks, AIIEA is still pursuing with the management for new recruitment in LIC and achieved partial success in its efforts. Hope it will achieve complete success in due course.

As for your suggestion for recruitment on contract basis let me remind you AIIEA opposes such things not only in LIC but elsewhere too. It was this idealogical understanding of AIIEA which enabled it to achieve recruitment through NIT awards not once but twice in the past.

  25. I presume, some employees who are not members of AIIEA or a set of aggrieved members of AIIEA have created this blogspot. Scores of selfless leaders with their dedication and commitments to the insurance employees as well as to LIC have made LIC what it is today, a premier economic entity in the world and AIIEA one of the finest and greatest trade unions in the world.

When the enemies of public sector undertakings are out there, united in their mission to disintegrate the temples of modern INDIA, we the employees of insurance industry must stand in unison to wage a historic battle to protect the interest of 25 crore policyholders who are not only our customers but also our fellow citizens. This is the need of the hour, I appeal to all comrades to direct their enthusiasm and energies in this direction.

When we say 'ALL INDIA INSURANCE EMPLOYEES' ASSOCIATION ZINDABAD', it represents INDIA, our great nation from KASHMIR to KANYAKUMARI.

AIIEA demanded immediate, meaningful talks and immediate settlement. So next round of talks may be any time around near future. Regarding % ... ? Hmmm... AIIEA demands 'HANDSOME" wage revision. It also made it clear that 17.5% is not that handsome. Let's hope it is really handsome.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dear Com. Utpal,

Neither is it AIIEA's wish to delay the wage settlement. Please understand the Government's attitude. Whether we like it or not LIC Management on its own cannot act or decide on these things. After submitting our Charter of Demands, it took more than 18 months for the management to call the unions for talks on wage revision. But it was not to make any offer but only to satisfy the employees and their organisations. And it took another eight months for the government to give clearance to the management to make some offer. This session again was not for arriving at any sollution but only to gauge the mood of the employees. Only after nearly 30 months, that too only due to the agitated mood of the employees, did the management start the meaningful talks. After our rejection of the offer, management is waiting for government's nod for making a better offer.

So, it is not AIIEA that delays the wage settlement but only the government's reluctance that delays it. Be it in the case of LIC or GIC or Bank or Central Government employees, the government's government's attitude is to delay the issue. In Banks it took 30 months for them arrive at a sollution. There is an unofficial report which says that because of this delay banks have earned nearly Rs.1870 crores by investing the unpaid wages of the employees. Had it been paid to the employees in time and they in turn invest their money as banks did, employees would have earned this Rs. 1870 crores. So, please do not look at it in terms of levy being paid to the Union. After all it is our own organisation which in turn would spend that money for our cause only. But compared to the loss of Rs.1870 crores of investment earnings, the levy portion is very very negligible. By the way, I'm not a spokesman of AIIEA but a follower.

  31. Dear Com. Utpal,

Glad you understand the reason behind the delay in our wage settlement. Regarding your query about our strike action on 31.03.2010 and its subsequent withdrawal, I would like to remind you of AIIEA's circular on this issue. I do not remember the date of the circular but the contents are fresh in my mind. In that circular AIIEA specifically informed all the employees that the strike was withdrawn following the LIC Management's written assurance on the wage revision issue sent to all the employees' organisations. The LIC Management's letter was posted in LIC's Divisional and Zonal Office web sites for viewing. If you have not read it then, you may now search for it in our Central Office web site. AIIEA viewed that letter as a positive development in the issue and AIIEA believes the LIC management will honour its written commitment. It was only because of this development AIIEA has withdrawn the strike call and extended its co-operation as requested by the management in the year end business rush. Let us hope management calls us for next round of talks at the earliest and honours its own written
    commitment with an improved offer.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Dear Com. Utpal,

Yes comrade. Any chapter of AIIEA's history is hi-story, ie., big big story which we can cherish and enjoy even if we read or hear repeatedly again and again. What we lose due to the delay in settlement of wage revision goes to the management which in turn is being utilised by the government for its own political agenda. So, naturally our anger should be against the government and not anybody else. What we pay to AIIEA by way of levy is not pocketed by any individual because AIIEA is not a company owned by any individual. But it is a 'membership organisation' and the amount collected by it belogns to all its 'members'. The funds of AIIEA is managed by 'our own people' whom 'we' elect every two years who in turn spends that money for 'our own cause'.

Regarding your contention that AIIEA's domination over the management, let me remind you a few things. In the past there were only two parties who negotiated all issues. The two parties were AIIEA and the LIC Management. As both parties were working in the interest of the organisation, all issues were settled on the basis of their justness. As AIIEA raised only genuine, reasonable and just issues, they were settled in our favour which looked as if AIIEA was dominating the managenent. As both LIC Management and AIIEA were interested only in the welfare of LIC and the employees, issues were approached in a reasonable way. But once the Government stepped in, the justness of the issues were pushed to the back and the Government's interest has taken the center stage which is being viewed as if AIIEA has lost its power. But it is not true. AIIEA is fighting against the government's anti labour and anti people policies too. Being a trade union AIIEA alone cannot fight against the government. That is why we have been mobilising people to fight against the government's wrong policies. Even in our wage revision issue at times we have to carry out some political battles too. So, it is neither true that AIIEA dominated the management in the past nor is it correct that AIIEA has lost its powers today. AIIEA always is AIIEA, the protector of LIC and its employees.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Dear Com. Anonymous,

Though the delay is regretted, in such matters delay is inevitable and bound to be there. For you and me wage revision is the only issue, but for the Government and the management it is one of the issues. If we can get one or two bucks more why can't we wait for some more time? Having waited this long what if we have to wait for some more time?

  42. Dear Com. Anonymous,

You have asked 'how many more days we have to wait'. It is a question we have to put forth to the LIC Management and only LIC Management is competent to answer the question. AIIEA is not responsible for the delay. In fact AIIEA, like you and me, has been asking the LIC Management the same question and demanding immediate talks.

Regarding your reference about SC/ST Welfare Association, I too have read about it in news paper and it was an interim order issued by the Madras High Court. AIIEA is also aware of the development. But it is a legal matter between SC/ST Welfare Association and the LIC Management. AIIEA has nothing to do with it. What is there for AIIEA to inform about it?

You referred about market situation. Yes. It not only affects you and me but affects millions of poor Indians too. Our DA is being assessed every three months, only to offset this market fluctuations (ie. price rise and inflation). So to some extent we are protected. The Central Government talks about Aam Aadmi but works for Ambanis and other big businesses. Please don't have any illusion that wage revision will solve this problem. Even after our wage revision the situation will not improve. The government's pro rich policies are the main reason for the situation and even after our wage revision our 'hunger' will persist. Wage revision is only to better our future prospects only. Apart from that it will not solve any of these social problems. Unless the government changes its policies, social problems will persist and continue to affect common people.

  43. For Those Who have not read the Circular of
    AIIEA

    A PART OF AIIEA'S CIRCULAR NO 14
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT READ

IT’S TIME TO REDEEM THE PLEDGE

The LIC employees have honoured their commitment to take the Corporation to dizzying heights. It is now the turn of LIC management to redeem their pledge of a good and satisfactory wage revision. Prof. Noel is on spot when he notes that “despite superlative performance, compensation to LIC people has lagged the market”. That precisely is the reason why AIIEA has been demanding some relationship between the premium income and the wage. The Government and LIC must understand that their excessive dependence on external factors rather than the strength of the institution would surely create disenchantment among the employees. In the process, the LIC would run the risk of frittering away the goodwill of the employees if their genuine and reasonable expectations continue to receive a raw deal. Such a situation would be harmful to the interests of the institution. We are confident that future has great potential for LIC. LIC is bound to take giant strides forward and even a conservative estimate suggests that the total premium income would rise to Rs.2,40,000 crores as at 31.3.2012 from Rs.1,27,782 crores as at 31.3.2007. Therefore, the LIC must recognize both the contribution of the employees and potential growth of this great institution in deciding the levels of wage compensation.

The employees of LIC and PSU general insurance companies have delivered a stunning performance. This stunning performance has come when the insurance industry worldwide is struggling and the Indian economy is yet to fully come out of the slowdown. Such a sterling performance of the institutions and the contributions of the employees just cannot be ignored. It is good that the LIC has committed to work for a satisfactory wage settlement taking into consideration the aspirations of the employees. The Chairman of GIPSA has also expressed similar feelings. It is now time for them to redeem the pledges without further loss of time.

  51. I have gone through the various comments in this blog. Some comments with lot of slang language and filthy words amply indicate the level of consciousness of the concerned and their attitude towards the Union and especially the AIIEA. When the Trade Unions in the advanced countries are giving credits to the AIIEA that we have been able to stop LIC / GIC being privatised, through sustained campaign and struggle, those who are spreading falsehoods and spewing venom on AIIEA, are not understanding what the AIIEA has achieved. They must make a thorough analysis themselves and come to a conlcusion before passing such nasty remarks on the AIIEA. They are, by using such bad words, doing disservice to the AIIEA in particular and to the entire trade union movement in the country. I only wish that good sense would prevail upon them and stop using such harsh words. It is not my case here to say that there are no problems in the Union. There may be problems. But airing such views through this blog, instead of bringing these issues at various forums created by the AIIEA, would only help those vested interests who are hell bent on destroying the mighty AIIEA to advance their cause. Hope people who are writing in this blogs would think before they express their opinion.

In pension scheme, a clause to make good the pension funds, if they fall short to pay pensions to retirees, was introduced at his insistence, during United Front regime at the centre with the active support by the then CPIM General Secretary Com Surjeet, who was the architect of that government. Please note that banks' pension scheme has no such a clause or provision. Kudos and thanks to these great leaders of Indian working class movement. The recent accruals in benefits to pensioners, thanks to efforts by aiiea, are well known. That is aiiea.

Number of circulars are being circulated by its ALL India, Zonal and Divisionl bodies. I doubt whether there is any other trade union in India which is sharing information with its members by issuing so many circulars. On important issues, detailed informations are being shared with its members through gate meetings, employees' meetings and et al. If anybody wants more detailed information on any issue they are free to contact any office bearers of their respective Divisional or Zonal units and even from AIIEA headquarters. This is possible only with AIIEA because it has nothing to hide from its members.

  76. Tomorrow we will be observing the 11th Death Anniversary of Our Great Leader Com Saroj Chaudhri. I feel Privileged to get Many Occasions to hear his Speech. The First Occasion was a Meeting organized in Chennai in February 1988 when AIIEA’s Headquarters was shifted to Chennai from Calcutta. Immediately on the Next Day , there was a General Council Meeting of Chennai Division to prepare for the 15th March 1988 Bharat Bundh . There He spoke for More than One Hour. I still remember it as it opened a new world to me.

In 1998 When we saw him in Hyderabad Conference , He wore a different costume and not in his typical Bengal style and was weak also. But When he addressed in the Delegates Session, it was with his Full Energy. He concluded his speech insisting Comrades to read continuously. This Last Speech is published in the June 2000 Issue of Insurance Worker. I request all comrades to read it.

Vellore Division had translated in Tamil, one of his articles on Vietnam published in August 1975 Issue of Insurance Worker and also organizing a Convention .

I would like to reproduce the Final Paragraphs of this Inspiring Article.

“ For Liberation and Socialism, no people on earth fought as the Vietnamese fought. No People on earth withstood such savage barbarism as the Vietnamese did. No people fought for long thirty years relentlessly as the Vietnamese did. No people surpasses Vietnam in doggedness, determination, sacrifice and perseverance.

For Thirty years ,the Vietnamese have been drenching the soil of Vietnam with their blood. For them now a new chapter has started. They have already undertaken the job of creating a new Vietnam, the dream child of Ho Chi Minh, where children instead of begging will play, the women, instead of selling their bodies for a morsel of food will join their menflok in building dams and erecting factories and constructing schools.

The young men instead of being robbers and touts and pimps, will work their hands to weariness, so that when they reach the sunset of their lives, they will quietly ruminate over the days under diem and Thieu and how they fought and liberated their country and how in one life time they changed the life of the entire people.

For them the building of a New Life starts, where the distant horizon is painted with thousand rainbows and where the life will be as beautiful as a drop of dew suspended on the petals of a rose radiating in the first rays of the morning son.

Because we also yearn for that life, story of Vietnam sustains the working class all over the world, ourselves included, in our grim battle for the life which is already within their grasp. That for us is the meaning of Vietnam.

Long live Vietnam! Our Salute To Vietnam!

    Red Salute to Com Saroj.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Dear Com. Anonymous,

It doesn't require any AIIEA leader to answer your comment but even a common man like me who has little common sense can answer you.

AIIEA is not poor as you said but rich in experience unlike you. Let me once again reiterate that AIIEA is not responsible for the delay but so many other factors delay our wage revision talks. As for the sense of timing, from my memory let me share a bit of AIIEA's history In 1974 when all other unions were ready to sign the agreement, AIIEA rejected the management's offer and went on its agitation. Having suppressed TU movement in Indian Airlines through lock out, the Govt.-Management combined tried the same trick in LIC too and declared lock outs in six divisions. AIIEA countered this onslaught through indefinite strike. At that time too, other unions who were ready to sign the agreement, like you, remarked that "AIIEA did not have the sense of timing". But on the contrary when there was no let up in AIIEA's commitment, officials of the Govt.-Management combine air dashed to AIIEA headquarters and pleaded with the leaders to partake in the talks to end the deadlock. And the talks were held in the presence of the then union labour minister and a new agreement has been reached which was to the liking of AIIEA and then only AIIEA withdrew the strike and the management lifted the lockout and all charge sheets were withdrawn by the management. After the culmination of this wage revision talks, the then 'steely' PM Indira Gandhi while talking to the reporters dejectedly admitted that the government has failed in the case of LIC on the issue of wage revision. This is the history of AIIEA.

This past experience amply proves that AIIEA does not require any tutorial for the sense of timing and the experience is its best teacher which guides its onward march. As somewhere in this forum one Com. VSK of Chennai has said, "AIIEA's history is its experience and experience is its teacher and that experience shows which is right path and AIIEA shares it with everybody. So rally round AIIEA and we can achieve what we want."

Federation shouted " Sign it, Sign Now"
intimidating the Leadership to sign a
below par settlement. But AIIEA ignored them and final outcome after defeating the Lock Out is history.

It is the same fedn who now told that asking more than 17.5 will be sabotaging the Interest of Bank Employees. Com Ramesh, Joint Secretary, AIIEA had recently written a sharp article in insurance Worker on their ploys. This is the reply to that ananymous caller.

    Let him read it

    ReplyDelete
  110. Dear Com. Anonymous,

Any wage revision in any industry is a mutually acceptable preposition and as such there is no question of any claim or demand of penal interest for the delay. As for your query about individual appeal, it is not possible in the industries like LIC or Banks as these institutions function on the basis of "EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK". Individual bargaining for wages is a 'western concept' adopted mostly in IT sector where there is no organised trade unions to protect the employees and where employees are strictly warned by the management to keep their salary details as "SECRET" and not to divulge the details to anybody, even to a co-worker. This practice gives room for the management to exploit the employees which is not possible in LIC or Banks. Thanks to AIIEA, we have been enjoying this privilege in LIC till date.

AIIEA will not enter in to such traps. Be patient. You will get arrears for the complete period.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Kindly Read this Article of Com V.Ramesh, Joint Secretary, AIIEA in Insurance Worker

FEDERATION – ON TO THE OLD GAME AGAIN
    V.RAMESH
The struggle for wage revision has reached a critical stage. The joint struggle of the employees broke the stalemate and forced an assurance from LIC that it would work seriously to find a satisfactory solution to the issue of wage revision. It is hoped that negotiations would recommence soon and the LIC employees would make further advancement to secure a good wage revision based on their aspirations and the strength of the institution.
The LIC has closed the financial year 2009-10 with yet another remarkable performance. The LIC procured the First Premium Income of Rs.42960.44 crore through the sale of over 3.88 crore policies. This translates into a growth of 21.63% in FPI and 8.21% in number of policies. The performance of LIC in group business is spectacular. The premium secured through group insurance is Rs.20,542 crores registering a growth of 64%. The LIC Chairman is confident that the total premium income would be in excess of Rs.176000 crore. It is natural for employees to expect that their hard work and goodwill which enabled this spectacular performance would find recognition and the LIC officials would honour their commitment by taking speedy steps to settle the demand for wage revision to the satisfaction of the employees.
In the midst of this struggle, the LIC employees are once again witness to the acts of frustration and desperation of the All India LIC Employees’ Federation. This deep frustration is seen in the editorial of March 2010 issue of Vima Kamgar. The LIC employees know that the Federation has abundant arsenal of slanders, half-truths and outright lies. They are accustomed to seeing the desperate use of this arsenal whenever the wage revision reaches a critical stage. We know that this desperation and frustration is because of their total isolation from the employees. The leadership of the federation must blame itself for the sorry mess they are in today. The AIIEA made every effort to convince them to be a part of the united movement of the employees. But their bankrupt political understanding and lack of faith in struggle did not allow them to join the united struggles. It would have been better had they seriously made an introspection as to why they stand isolated and rejected by the LIC employees. Why the ‘militant alternate platform of struggle” that they formed splitting away from AIIEA is in such a pathetic shape that it cannot claim the support of even 5% of the LIC employees? It is the experience of the movement that a trade union grows only in the process of struggle to secure the interests of the working class and no trade union can grow through class collaboration. One thought that the Federation would draw lessons from their supporting emergency in a display of abject class collaboration. They went to the extent of saying that the loss of monetary benefits and rights of the working class was too small a price to pay for the gains of emergency. It is history that the employees gave a befitting reply to their policy of class collaboration. But then one cannot expect honest introspection and correction from a leadership that is bent upon self-destruction. Therefore slanders, lies and vituperative campaign against the AIIEA are their answer to hide their weakness and incapabilities from the employees.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Com Ramesh Article - part 2

The Federation claims that 17.5% wage offer to LIC employees has come on a platter. This understanding is a reflection of their bankrupt political and class understanding. The LIC employees have reached this stage through a serious and sustained struggle. In a class divided society, no benefit comes to the working class through the benevolence of the ruling classes. Every single right or benefit has to be bitterly fought and secured. The stage of 17.5% wage offer in insurance industry was also reached traversing through the path of struggles including one day strike on 16th September 2009. To say that 17.5% came on a platter is a great insult to the struggles of the LIC employees. If the Federation is reconciled to accept 17.5% expressing that it is the Finance Ministry’s decision for the entire financial sector, the members of Federation must ask their leaders as to why they were forced to go on strike on 22nd January 2010. It becomes clear now that the strike call was not out of any conviction to advance the interests of the employees but due to the fear of being exposed before the employees.
The federation finds fault with the AIIEA for demanding the wage to have a relationship with the premium income. They talk about the dangers if the premium income declines. This exposes their hollowness. The AIIEA has the confidence in the growth and progress of the institution. After all this growth and progress has been built on the massive trust by the people of this country. It is this trust and confidence that enabled the LIC to beat back all attacks and continue to dominate the Indian insurance market as the undisputed leader. Secondly it is too naïve to believe that wage can be decided without any relationship to the paying capacity of an institution. The AIIEA, therefore, has sound and legitimate reasons to demand the wage on the basis of the strength of the LIC. The employess are aware that AIIEA finalised its charter of demands in July 2007 in its working committee meeting held at Kolkata and submitted the charter to the Chairman, LIC on 14th August 2007. VI Pay Commission recommendations were submitted to the Finance Minister on 24th March 2008. Thus everybody except the Federation’s leadership knows that AIIEA had not based its arguments on the Pay Commission or on the basis of developments of any other institution but on the basis of the enormous prosperity of the institution and its unmatched paying capacity.
The AIIEA welcomes the finalization of wage revision in the banking industry. The unions in the banks reached the settlement after a protracted joint struggle. AIIEA respects their wisdom and decision. The Federation is making a futile effort to sow differences between the unions in LIC and the Banks. The Federation surely cannot be unaware of the fact that the Bank unions had collectively submitted a Charter demanding 40% increase to the clerical staff and 45% increase to the subordinate staff. In the process of negotiations and bargaining they could strike a deal at 17.5%. It is difficult to understand that the federation is not even aware what negotiations and bargaining means. This is a calculated mischief. This mischief is also seen when they call the 2005 settlement in one circular as costing over 14.5% and in another 13.3%. After all truth and consistency have never been their strong points. Be that as it may, the insurance employees know how handsome the 2005 wage settlement was as the saying goes ‘the proof of the pudding is in the eating’.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Com Ramesh Article Part 3

Not content with the mischievous campaign on wage revision, the federation has also been indulging in outright canards in a desperate attempt to falsify history. Look at the dishonesty when they say that the CPI(M) supported the splitting of the LIC in five or more corporations in 1981. It was the CPI(M) that led the opposition to that draconian Bill. It was the CPI(M) which again compelled the Government to refer the Bill to the Select Committee of the Parliament. The LIC employees for ever would take pride in the epic struggle of the AIIEA in resistance of that move. The campaign among the public undertaken by the units of AIIEA against the LIC split Bill and the thousands of memoranda mobilised to the Joint Parliamentary Committee are still fresh in the memories of the senior employees. Finally the then Prime Minister of the country Shri Rajiv Gandhi had to inform through a letter dated April 12, 1985 addressed to Com Sunil Maitra, Joint Secretary of AIIEA that “the Government have reconsidered the matter and decided not to proceed with the Bill”. Insurance Worker published this letter in its issue of April 1985.
The Federation must understand that they cannot succeed in falsifying history. These slanders against the CPI(M) is understandable as the leadership of the Federation has always been known for being anti-Left and that precisely is the bankruptcy of their political understanding as the political Left is the strongest supporter of the working class movements.
Employees in the financial sector remember the struggle of the Joint Action Committee (of which AIIEA was an active partner) which made the Pension Scheme 1995 a reality. Employees still remember the efforts of AIIEA in including a special clause in the LIC Pension Scheme that the LIC would place sufficient funds in the Pension fund to meet the day to day payments. History can be properly remembered only by those who were part of it.
The LIC employees have already answered the Federation by making them irrelevant. The AIIEA neither considers it necessary nor is it worth joining issues with the Federation on the basis of their lies and slanders. However, the AIIEA is always willing for honest polemics. Let the Federation therefore continue with the job they are so adept at. AIIEA would only concentrate on securing a good and satisfactory wage revision to the insurance employees.

  117. A.I.I.E.A ENTERS 60TH YEAR

Today, Our All India Insurance Employees’ Association is entering its 60th Year . We all should feel proud to be a part of this Great Organization. It is indeed happy to be a member when Our Organization celebrates its Diamond Jubilee. Having joined in LIC, I had the opportunity to be in A.I.I.E.A when the 40th year and the Golden Jubilee is celebrated and now it is Diamond Jubilee. If I survive I will have the Opportunity to witness AIIEA entering its 75th Year. The 59 years of Existence of AIIEA is not just a record. But a History. History because of its achievements, History due to its Struggle , History due to its Uncompromising stands, History because of the Principles of Working Class. History due to the Unity of the Members and their Commitment.

AIIEA in this 59 years had achieved a Lot. This page will not be sufficient to list them all. Anyway I would like to mention a very few.

Nationalization of Life Insurance Industry in 1956 and General Insurance in 1972

Reinstatement of 55 Terminated Employees of Metropolitan Insurance Company in to the services of LIC. I would like to write separately on this.

Impressive Economic Gains to the Insurance Employees starting from the Standardization of Wages for the Employees working in various companies and absorbed in LIC. Starting from the First Strike on 05.12.1956 in LIC, AIIEA is consistently improving the various benefits including wage. Those who are now anxious on wage revision will realize the efforts of AIIEA only when they count the arrears amount.

I would not have visited various parts of India and travel by Flight will remain only as Dream, if AIIEA had not improved the LTC Benefits. Ex gratia on High Cost Treatment is really a boon in the present day commercialization of Medical Profession. Since a Maximum Amount of Rupees Three Lakhs can be paid as Advance, the Comrades and their families are relived from a Great Strain of arranging Finance when some treatment are required.

Continuous Movement against Automation in LIC in Sixties and the Historic “ ILACO VIGIL” Struggle in Calcutta against the Entry of Super Computer in LIC Office which was not only participated by the Cadres of AIIEA , but the entire working class of West Bengal including the Great Leader of the masses, Com Jothi Basu. Nearly 70 % of the Present Working Force are the Fruits of this struggle. For this single aspect only we must remain loyal to AIIEA.

We would not have celebrated the Golden Jubilee of LIC if AIIEA had not defeated the Split Bill. If there was no opposition of Malhothra Committee Report and sustained struggle through out the Country, LIC will not be a Public Sector Today. Who made the Parliamentary Committee to recommend that the Capital of LIC must be from Government only?

100 % Neutralization of DA – This demand is the concept of AIIEA and we got it long back. I still remember that it is the First Arrears Money I got in LIC in 1986 for some 5 months and bought HMT Watch in that money.

Booz , Allen, Hamilton Committee threatened the Employees with 40,000 Surplus Theory. The Mega Assembly of Golden Jubilee Year Conference Rally in Chennai threw it in the dustbin.

The List is endless, We need some more improvement, We will struggle and We will get them.

Let us remember the Sacrifices of Our Elders, Let us Protect Our Great Organisation AIIEA and march forward to scale New Heights.

Diamond Jubilee Year Greetings to all Comrades,

AIIEA MARCH ON, AIIEA RIGHT PATH, AIIEA ZINDABAD

  119. Dear Comrade CTS,

Actually this article came in mail from SZIEF, What I did is only some copy & paste
job. But I translated this circular in Tamil and released it in Our Division. At that time I typed it directly in tamil.

It is Our duty to protect our Organization and we will continue to do it.

  120. I observe that it is the habit of aiiea leaders that they are vocal about their achivement upto the decade 8o. What they achive in 1992 wage revision only 10.2% and they are very much worried about federation demand though they claimed that their membership strength is above 80% in the industry.....how funny!!!!!

  124. SC/ST WELFARE ASSOCIATION IS GOING TO BE CONSIDERED AS TRADE UNION OR NOT. IF IT IS TRUE THEN IT WILL BE A CONGLOMARATION OF MANAGEMENT AND LABOUR CLASS. QUESTION WILL BE THAT WHO WILL MAKE DEMAND TO WHOM.

  125. Let me make it one thing clear. This is not the website of AIIEA. But one created by some
elements to create confusion among the minds of the Comrades. We want to clarify certain facts and highlight the glories of the
organisation as a true cadre of AIIEA.
On Wage Revision, AIIEA will surely come out
with the updates at the appropriate time
through Circulars. AIIEA Leadership alone is
    competant to do it.

Ok, Mr Anany, When you know about 1992 revision, you must be knowing that that settlement was hailed by AIBEA, FEDN etc when AIIEA ALONE opposed it. The present
american slave who was the then FM unilaterally imposed on us citing historic
link with Banks. When We opposed it, Fedn
demanded Notification and Manmohansingh said all unions except One are supporting him.
Hence we must expose those traitors.

  126. I have been a member of the AIIEA for 20 years now. The organisation is known for its transparency and internal democracy. Now I feel pained to see a reversal in the attitude of office-bearers especially in the divisional unions. Whoever questions their attitude is stamped as a dissident and vicitimised. This is especially the case in the case of Coimbatore Division under Southern Zone.Branch issues are procrastinated, members' genuine propblems are not even given a patient hearing, let alone addressed and the entire leadership in the divisional head quarters are functioning as if they are masters and the members are their slaves. Even highly revered former leaders, whose leadership qualities are unmatched are being sidelined and their advices ignored. The leadership is autocratical, to say the least. Groupism and opportunitism appear upfront. If this is any indication, i fear that there is going to be serious problems that may even lead to a dichotomy in the near future. I know that the divisional leaders may not even be aware of such a blog, but its my sincere appeal to the readers to send mail or letters to the divisional general secretary. mail id of the gs is v.suresh@licindia.com

  127. The leaders are continuously talking about work culture. What about the work culture of the leaders especially at branch and divisional level ? Should not they lead by example? Unfortunately, what they do is to seek shelter under the banner of leadership and literally do no work at all. To some extent, branch leaders cannot escape from doing any work. But the divisional leaders do no office work at all. They conduct their meetings, attend to their personal works under the pretext of union related jobs, etc, all during office hours. They draw salary from the corporation for their trade union works. Shame on them. Its high time the zonal and all india body take corrective measures and advice their leaders to change their work culuture first.

  128. Com. Anonymous who commented (July 1, 2010) upon 1992 wage revision has given me an opportunity to recollect and refresh my memory. Com. Raman has given a brief reply to that person. Both our Pension Struggle and 1992 Wage Revision struggle still remain apt examples to understand the attitude of the Federation-AIBEA nexus. At that time AIIEA was toiling hard, by carrying on struggles both organisationally and politically, to get a better deal than the banks. AIIEA has mobilised nearly 120 MPs in favour of an amicable settlement and against unilateral notification. Similarly AIIEA has also mobilised labour Ministers of 3 states, viz., Rajasthan, Karnataka and West Bengal to raise their voice in our favour demanding the Central Government not to issue unilateral notification arbitrarily. When it appeared LIC employees might get more than the bank employees, our federation approached AIBEA's help to thwart it. Accordingly the General Secretary of AIBEA has met central finance minister, not to demand anything for bank employees but to prevent LIC employees from getting anything more than the banks. With the same demand again the leaders of the AIBEA along with one of the leaders of AILICEF and AITUC's frontline leader met union finance minister. Following this the central government unilaterally issued notification on 23.02.1996 without AIIEA's concurrence. Even after the notification AIIEA continued its struggle for improvement in our wage revision. Due to AIIEA's persistent struggle finally a fresh notification was issued on 23.8.1998 for payment of Special Allowance from Rs.75/- to Rs. 170/- for Cl. III and from Rs. 75/- to Rs. 110/- for Cl. IV employees w.e.f. 1.7.1996. Only after issuance of this second notification on 23.8.1998 our wage revision struggle came to an end. This is the history of AIIEA. There is only one letter that differs between AIBEA and AIIEA. For AIBEA the letter 'B' stands for betrayal and for AIIEA the letter 'I' stands for integrity.

Com. Anonymous has also commented that "it was funny AIIEA was very much worried about federation demand though they claimed that their membership strength was above 80% in the industry." Yes comrade! AIIEA is the majority union in LIC but still it is worried about federation. Because it does not fear about the foes but bothers about the betrayers. Against betrayers one has to be doubly or even trebly cautious. This cautious approach has ensured AIIEA's earlier victories and will ensure in future too.

  130. To Continue with Com CTS,

The so called Historic Link was very well broken in 1997 & 2002. Even now there is no
such link, We are awaiting only to know how far we are ahead.

    WITH OUT ANY COMMENTS

Then for the revision due from August 2007,
AIIEA finalised the charter well in July 2007
in its All India Working Committee held at Kolkatta.

  135. Thank you comrade anonymous for calling me an expert, but I consider myself as common as others. But even before I could give any "expert views" on your query, you have received some crisp and sharp replies for your question. In addition to what others have said let me add few more points. Circulars alone are not the source to share informations to members. There are other means too like gate meetings, employees' meetings, GB meetings and et al. AIIEA is one of the very few organisations that functions democratically by conducting annual general conferences periodically right from the base level to All India level, strictly adhering to its constitution. At present all the divisions are busy in holding annual conferences by finishing off GBs at base level during when all the informations are shared among its members. After having already shared all the informations with its members, issuance of any circular is meaningless. Unlike others, AIIEA never issues any meaningless, worthless circulars.
